Congress is back and nothing will happen

While we were working during the summer, perhaps taking a long weekend or two, Congress has been out on vacation for five weeks.

Arriving back in Washington, tanned and relaxed, it is anticipated that they will not do anything meaningful and pretty much have another five week vacation while awaiting the outcome of the Presidential election.

While there are numerous issues to contend with, including the “fiscal cliff” (a term coined to describe the confluence of mandated budget cuts to social programs while simultaneously raising certain taxes) that is believed to be a deadly one-two punch which will significantly hurt the economy.

There will be one thing that the Congressmen will be hard at work on; taking cheap shots at each other in an attempt to score political points for either Romney or Obama.

There will be little actual work but an abundance of grandstanding, trash talking, face time in front of cameras and blaming the other political party for all the world’s problems.

Maybe they should return to the golf course for another five weeks?
